I just started binging on the HBO series, “Barry”, about a hit man who wants to become an actor. I know it will make you all laugh. And it’s particularly hilarious for those of us in LA (especially acting coaches). I’m loving it! Have you seen it? https://youtu.be/b09aJdWqVp4

Hi all, I'm an actor, like most of you I imagine, and I need to find out what I offer as my brand based on first impressions of how I look, what vibe you get from me etc. etc. If you could quickly fill out the survey below that would help me so much! I had a long long debate with my acting friend. She said that good acting is just about being present and connected. My line of thought is, good acting is what is seen through the camera. She was saying, if you see bad actors in class or in a movie, it's because they weren't connected to the material. She's saying it a…

I have the grits to make it, but I need help. i want a team to work with. a mentor, somebody to see my value and hustle and talent that can perhaps help me out a little bit with advice, career guidance, etc. I wouldn't even mind "interning" or being an assistant to somebody that is established in the business, an oppor…

Curious how people feel. A lot of in room auditions are just taped and sent to producers anyways but, I’m constantly travelling for work and finding a reader is a big problem. Most of the time I gotta use my phone and self read which has worked before. I just feel like there’s such a stigma of how professional people a…

Hey all! So I'll try and keep this brief. I've done theatre here and there throughout high school, college, and after college in community theatre & classes, but it's always just been a hobby I enjoyed. I've only had ensemble & small speaking roles. I genuinely love doing theatre, but I never saw it as a potential for…

Hello, all! My child is a 12 yr old child actor after she decided to go professional about a year and a half ago. She just wrapped up a supporting role in an indie feature film (premiere is next month), have done industrial and booked for a regional commercial to film this week. Her first job was modeling (not her pass…

A week ago I submitted myself online for a role of being a stand in/photo double after I saw I matched the physical description they were looking for. The only information on the submission was that the play was being produced by a well known actor. The submission listed the actor, however I want to omit that for priva…

Who do you guys think is the greatest actor of all time? Not in terms of popularity but in terms of actual acting (getting into character, conveying strong emotions, diverse body of work and roles). Past and present! I’m sure everyone will have different opinions which is great, so I look forward to seeing what you guy…

One of the things I love about Reddit is that in a little over a month I’ve been able to meet and give guidance to actors all over the world...all in my free time on set between camera set ups. Some of them live in small towns in rural areas...some in the US, UK and as far as Turkey. They have this deep desire to act a…

How do you balance school work/classes and making it to auditions and shoots? Do you have to take a lot of time off? Generally just wondering how the experience has been acting while also pursuing education! :)

If not, which schools are teaching something different? My place is behind the scenes, writing/directing/cinematography, but to be perfectly honest I do not like modern realist styles, which are all rooted in method acting and ultimately in Stanislavski’s theories. I really prefer the older styles of acting which did n…

Hi everyone! I need some advice on self-tapes. I've heard mixed reviews. Do you memorize your sides or do you use them as you would at an in-person cold read when you do self-tapes? Thanks!

So this is an opinion of mine that may not be popular with some, but I figured I would see what you guys think. I was wondering how actors trained for spontaneous reactions (laughing, crying, etc.), without making it appear forced. Or is it a quality some people have a better knack for than others?

For a website, where do actors usually go to do that? I don't know a whole lot about starting a website. I think I would definitely use "myname".com but do actors usually use go-daddy? Acting class is a little microcosm of the real world of acting. There are lots of people there who say they want to be actors. They sign up, pay the fee and show up for class. They all have these things in common. But this is where the similarities end. From then on the teacher will begin to see the students in differe…

I’m a filmmaker in pre-production for my first picture, not an actor, but obviously acting is somewhat integral to what I’m doing. I have an idea about the "types" I can play/ want to highlight for my reel, but I want a complete stranger's opinion based on first look. I know this is a question sure to ignite feelings before I ask it. So, I'm going to be a little light on details because otherwise it would be incredibly easy to find me, but I got the part as a minor role (speaking wise, stage time is pretty good) in a musical. “He’s like a young Tom Hanks”. “She’s like a funny Jennifer Lopez”. They want…
