I am starting out with acting (and that is what I REALLY would like to do) but I also have an interest in casting. Would it be bad if I were to do both? Is it a conflict of interest if I put myself out there as an actor while also being a casting associate (something more part-time). I currently have minimal involvemen…

I’m looking for someplace that runs seminars where actors can get in front of agents and managers. I know ‘pay to play’ situations are a little sketchy, but I’ve found some helpful information from them. I know Actors Connection is legit, but they operate mostly on the east coast. I’d like to meet a manager on the west…

Hi all! I’ve been encountering a good amount of voice over auditions that aren’t very clear about how they’d like the tape to be recorded. When a film/tv audition doesn’t give specific instructions, I always just default to a simple slate followed by a single take of the sides with an off screen reader, as is standard.…

Boy boy, where to start. Hi I’m an arab actress. When I watch tv, the only thing I see are white people or mixed race. I never see any of my ethnicity. This doesn’t give me any hope. Really unfortunate. They could’ve casted a beautiful unknown arab actress for chani in dune but instead they casted zendaya and a bunch o…

I need to do a pantomime in front of my classmates tomorrow for school. My pantomime outline is basically a skit where I kill a guy with a shovel and bury the body using the shovel. I’m a pretty decent actor so I decided to challenge myself but this is too much. I have already performed this in front of my class once a…

I have local agents that submit me for local commercials and stuff, but I really want a NYC agent or someone who can get me co-star roles in TV shows. I read that I need to get a letter from my school saying I’m in good health and have good grades to get an acting permit. I have a couple questions for that. Can I ask my school therapist or does it have to be a principle or someone from the school district? Does mental health count or are they only talking about physi…

Hey NYC actors! I have a request for a voiceover self-tape and am still in the process of compiling my materials/equipment for voiceover things. Since it’s the digital age, it seems that nowadays you can land a role just by applying to roles through casting apps. I’ve heard of people get roles this way, but would having an agent be better for landing roles than not having an agent and just using apps?

My complete failure at getting paid work in this 'self-tape' era has now metastasized into depression over my career in general...and it started off so well. However, I now have a new lens through which to see it. In the Summer of 2017, having been back in 'the biz' for a year, got two theatre plays on my resume, a cou…
